It's quiet here this morning all air conditioners are off. All we can hear are the whizzing of the fans (in the windows) with the nice cool Michigan breeze. I'm so glad for the sun we've had but very thankful for a little relief from the heat and humidity this morning.
We received our electric bill and it was lower than last year at this time. This month may be different because no matter what I just can't turn off the air conditioners at the hottest time of the day (2 p.m.-7 p.m).
Curbside pick up:
Before:
We went for a bike ride and saw two lawn chairs on the curb. They were very dirty but I knew we could get them clean. We finished out ride and came back with the truck to pick them up. We used a power washer and everything came off great. They also had cloth cushions that I was able to put in the washer.
After:
The chairs have wheels on the back to move them with and they have pull out foot supports. Fancy!
What we found at a garage sale/sale groups:
We found a like new twin/full bunk bed with dresser on craigslist for $200 for grandson.
We bought 2 boxes of Trader Joe's Single serve coffee cups (12 count) for $1.00 a box at a garage sale. In sealed plastic and in a box that wasn't opened. She didn't like the flavor so she just put it in her garage sale. We loved it!
I made a strawberry cake for my oldest daughter's birthday. It was so good but it wanted to melt quickly (the air conditioner was on). I just kept putting it back into the refrigerator to get cool again as I decorated. Great cake and this recipe is a keeper.
I've been able to hang out clothes just about everyday.
Every morning I make some sun tea to get ready for the day.
I was able to order 10 free prints from snapfish with free shipping. I look for these kind of deals to help remember the summer with pictures.
In the Garden:
I love seeing all the blooms in the garden. The pumpkin, tomato, zucchini, and spaghetti squash all have blooms on them now.
We bought seed potato's on discount at Walmart and planted them in the grow bag and in a empty row in the vegetable garden.
We planted some heirloom greasy green bean seed and some white half runner last week. They were all up in about 4 days. Now we just hope and pray.
You can see my weekly grocery shopping deal here and my menu plan for this week here.
Goals:
Keep getting the weeds out of the garden. I didn't put down mulch this year, the flood came just after I planted. Then, we needed to let the garden dry out for a couple of weeks. Next year back to mulching!
Clean living room carpet. I can have so many excuses for not doing this, too hot, too cold, too busy, etc.

Those chairs are awesome!!! Great find! And that strawberry cake looks delicious. I"m going to check out the recipe.
What a find on those chairs. Those are really nice. Don't you wonder how lazy people must be that they couldn't have just cleaned them themselves? Oh well, maybe they just didn't want them.
That cake looks so good!!!!
Have a great week.
My daughter really loved the cake so she will probably request it every birthday! Hope you like it too.
I know I think that too especially when they are so nice. Husband's brother finds more stuff in his neighborhood we should try more probably. Have a great week too Cheryl.
Those chairs are great! I hate seeing perfectly good items out for the trash where they up in the landfill forever. I'm glad you could rescue them!
Our biggest savings was planning ahead for the 4th for ribs. I knew the rib crowd would be in town so I bought 4 racks Memorial Day weekend for just $5 a rack which is a fantastic price for baby backs. Then I stocked up on Pioneer Woman BBQ sauce a couple of weeks ago with coupons and iBotta. In the end 4 racks of BBQ baby back ribs cost $23 and if we had paid full price for them it would have been $80 to 90. And here is a review on Pioneer Woman's new BBQ sauce-get some! It is the best BBQ sauce we have ever eaten. The $1 coupon and the iBotta cash back are still available so I want to get to Walmart and stock up while I can get it for 73 cents a jar. We celebrated our youngest grandchild's 2nd birthday while we were all together. It was a great week.
Oh that Pioneer Woman's BBq sauce sounds good and a reasonable price too! Lana, I haven't seen it yet or maybe I just haven't noticed it. I'll be looking for it.
Great deal on the ribs...enjoy the birthday party!
WOw love the chairs. Thanks for the recipe, I am going to try it for a birthday.
Love the chairs! Beautiful! During the month of July, CVS offers a "freebie" on Sunday and Wednesday if you have the app. I like freebies! :-)
I hope you love that cake as much as we did! We fought over the last piece!
Oh CVS has such great deals ...Hope I'll be by one this month! Have a great Sunday!
Vicky those chairs look almost new and with just a clean up they will make a lovely addition to your garden :). The cake looks divine and glad you were able to pick up a bunk bed for your grandson too so cheaply. Free photos are fantastic to keep family memories alive.

Great savings last week Lornna! I've heard that shade cloth works really well. We have a large maple that shades our garden in the evening. I hated that the next door neighbors had planted it but now I realize how important a little shade can be. I'm glad you got your cloth ready for the next growing season. Have a great day
